Frequently Asked Questions

  • If this is your first time seeking therapy for mental health challenges it can be difficult to know what to expect. The general course of treatment that I provide for clients begins with the free phone consultation, so we can connect and figure out if my approach is a good fit. If we decide to schedule an intake appointment, the next step will be for you to complete intake paperwork before our meeting. The intake appointment is an opportunity for you to share more about the problem that you’re seeking treatment for, the larger context of your life and history, and your goals for treatment. At the end of the intake I will provide you with my diagnostic assessment and a treatment plan based on what you have described. If you decide to pursue treatment we will then make a plan to meet regularly, typically once per week, to work on the treatment plan in session and between sessions. Given my training and background, the treatment I recommend typically incorporates exercises and activities for you to complete between sessions. This is known as “action oriented” treatment and has been demonstrated to be highly effective at improving the problems that I specialize in treating. For more detailed descriptions of what you can expect based on the problem you are experiencing, please view the Services [link] page.

  • I offer individual therapy for adults age 18 and older. The treatment approach that I take is based on cognitive behavioral therapy. I incorporate elements of acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based treatments. All three of these treatments are considered to have strong evidence that they are effective, according to the American Psychological Association. You can learn more about the effectiveness of these and other psychological treatments here.

At the core of the approach that I take is a method called exposure and response prevention, which is a therapeutic technique that creates opportunities for clients to rapidly gain new learning that improves symptoms in a systematic way.

  • My intake fee is $320 for the 60-minute initial assessment and my therapy fee is $240 per 45-minute session.

I do not accept insurance. However, I am enrolled in a billing tool called Thrizer that makes out-of-network billing easy with your health insurance plan. Instead of paying the full fee up front and getting reimbursed at a later date, you only pay the amount you are responsible for and Thrizer covers the rest. Thrizer then waits for reimbursement from your insurance on your behalf. Call your insurance company to inquire about your out-of-network benefits or use Thrizer’s out-of-network verification tool.

  • Yes, I offer sessions online via video conferencing and in-person options. My hours are Monday through Friday in the mornings and Tuesday through Thursday in the afternoons. I am only available to meet in-person during the morning before noon. If you live outside of Washington in a state that has enacted PSYPACT, then I can meet with you online.

  • In addition to specializing in treating anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, I also have many years of experience and training in other areas including:

    • Depression

    • Sleep difficulties

    • Problems controlling addictive behaviors (e.g., substance use, gambling, gaming)

    • Adjustment to life transitions

    • Chronic pain

    • Burn out
